The following is a speech by Asami Higashide from Japan about the Methven Golf Club.  Asami is 8 years old and is pictured with her family who all play golf.  Asami is the smaller of the two girls.Asami and her family are all members of Methven Golf Club                   This is her speech:
How to Enjoy Methven Golf Course
What do you do on your holidays?
I would play golf.In Japan, children have no chance to play in the golf course.  Bookings are full.  It is quite different here in Methven.
I like Methven Golf Course.
Hole #1…After a lot of rainy days, a stream appears.  The water is clear.  We have very narrow bridges over it.  I like jumping on that bouncy bridges.  When the ball gets in the water, you can take out the ball from the water without any penalties.
Hole #2…If you keep on hitting good shots, you will find ostrich eggs on your right.  They are SO BIG and I always imagine how nice if I could eat a fried egg with that big egg.
Hole #3…I saw rabbits jumping out from the trees and crossed the fairway.  They were so cute!!
Hole #4…I saw three wild ducks in the distance.I made a best shot I have ever made… and hit one of them.
Sorry, wild duck.
Hole #5… I saw…nothing.
Hole #8…I like this hole.  It has a bunker.  Bunker is a sand puddle in golf course.  This hole has a bunker which looks like it is opening its big mouth.  It is easy to be caught.  BUT I like it!!
It is just like I am playing in the big sandpit.I have to hit the sand, not the ball.
I may scatter sand and it is fun.  But don’t forget to flatten the surface after you hit in the sand.
I want to be a pro golfer.
When I go back to Japan, I can’t go to the golf course so often.I have to practice hitting the balls on the carpet in the net.
I feel like I am in a bird cage.
So I want to stay in New Zealand longer, and play golf on the green grass every day.
Why don’t you join me?
See you on the golf course. higashide-family-002.jpg
